My Story

Redeemed, and writing it down so others can find freedom.

I'm Steven Mikel, a Christian, husband, father*, artist, writer, and Christian thinker. I've spent over two decades as a web application architect and the founder of Competitive Edge Solutions. But the most important thing about me isn't what I've built. It's that I'm a man restored and redeemed through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

I've been married to my wife, Joanna, since June 13, 1998. She is my greatest earthly gift: brilliant, compassionate, creative, and steady in every season. Our story includes hard chapters and hidden failures, and a long, beautiful work of healing through repentance, accountability, and God's grace. I write about it openly because if my story helps even one person choose freedom before destruction, it's worth telling.

* Why the asterisk after “Father”? Because this is the part of my life where I’ve made my deepest mistakes. There are so many decisions and actions I wish I had handled differently. Choices I made affected my biological children profoundly, and what I regret most is how badly I handled the consequences. Other choices, driven by addictions I kept hidden, led to selfish, wrongful, and deeply hurtful situations. I paid a heavy price for them, and their impact is still felt today.

My greatest prayer is for healing and restoration in our family. I long for my siblings, and for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, to know that God loves them and wants to care for them, no matter how they feel about me. Each of their relationships with Jesus matters far more than their relationship with Jo or me. Even so, I keep praying, and I keep hoping, for reconciliation with every one of them.

What I'm Involved In

A wide swath of work, much of it personal.

Many of these grew out of my company, Competitive Edge Solutions, but they're really about people: encouraging men, fostering Christian creativity, helping believers pray, and making things of beauty.
